High School Park is an 11-acre oasis for native plants and wildlife that provides an educational and restorative connection to nature. The park originally was the grounds for Cheltenham High School, and became a Cheltenham Township park in 1996. With the support and cooperation of the Township, Friends of High School Park (FHSP) is responsible for the restoration and stewardship of the park, which has been carried out mostly by local volunteers. High School Park is unusually diverse for its small size. Within the park, there are four different types of environments, each harboring a distinct group of plants, as well as the birds and other animals that use them for food and shelter. These four natural communities are the stream bank (riparian zone), the meadows, the woods, and the edge community.
